If hairs are treated only once, why do I have to come for a series of treatments?
Hairs cycle, that's why you never go bald on top of your head. You constantly have new, active hairs growing in, and old, dormant hairs dying out. The goal is to treat each cycle of hair. I expect to see hairs in the treatment area throughout your course of treatment. I measure progress by the length of time you remain hair free between appointments.
What is the growth cycle?
There are three stages in the life cycle of a hair:
Anagen- A hair that is in the rapid growth phase. The follicle is actively producing the hair.
Catagen- Transitional phase, where the hair bulb is slowly pulling away from the blood supply.
Telogen- Non-growth stage. The bulb has completely pulled away from the blood supply and the follicle is dormant.
Why is this electrolysis permanent?
I will only treat hairs in the anagen or active growing stage. This will ensure all treatment you receive from me will be 100% permanent removal. There will be no waste of your time and money. Specifically timed appointments are scheduled so that your body can cycle hair, and treatment appointments are efficient. I will advise you to come in for treatment at the time when you have a good group of hairs in the anagen stage. It is very important to keep a schedule, so that each hair cycle is treated.
What about other Hair Removal Methods?
Waxing and Tweezing actually stimulate hair growth especially in hormonal areas of the body, and cause follicles to become distorted thus increasing the chance of ingrown hairs. Electrolysis is the best method of treatment for Pseudo folliculitis barbe, a condition where the point of an ingrown hair forms a pseudo follicle, and the skin around the area becomes irritated and infected. Waxing and tweezing can also cause hyperpigmentation and scarring. If you are considering electrolysis treatment, it is best to stop waxing and tweezing immediately. When you pull a hair from the root, it takes 13 weeks for the follicle to produce a hair that is visible above the surface of the skin. I advise you to start treatment as soon as possible in order to treat the regrowth from tweezing and waxing as it surfaces.
Clipping and shaving do not cause hair to grow dense or change the consistency of your hair. Women have always been told that shaving will cause thick course hair, when in actuality, follicles that are sensitive to blood and hormones will produce a thick hair. If your follicle is already producing a thick hair, you are stuck with that hair until the blood supply to that follicle is sealed.
Bleaching and depilatories can make the hair brittle and impede treatment. It is recommended that all chemicals be discontinued during the course of electrolysis treatment. You will see immediate permanent results with electrolysis. I will explain to you how to remain hair free between treatments without using chemicals.
Laser is a temporary form of hair removal. For more information on it, please visit the F.D.A. web site.
